The original Jenn-Air Products Company was founded by Louis J. Jenn in Indianapolis, Indiana, in 1947. Over time, it became known simply as Jenn-Air. In its early years, the company’s primary focus was on manufacturing and marketing industrial fans for use in various commercial and industrial applications.
However, in 1961, Jenn-Air made a significant breakthrough by integrating one of these fans into a cook-top range. This innovation led to the invention of the first self-ventilated downdraft range, a major advancement in kitchen appliances. This downdraft range helped to remove cooking odors and smoke from the kitchen, improving ventilation and making cooking more comfortable.
As a result of this success, Jenn-Air expanded its product line to include a wide range of kitchen appliances, including microwave ovens, refrigerators, dishwashers, and small appliances like mixers and blenders. This diversification allowed Jenn-Air to become a well-respected brand known for innovation and quality in the kitchen appliance industry.
